His assassination fulfilled the LORD’s message to Jehu,“Four generations of your descendants will rule on Israel’s throne.” And that is how it happened.

Indeed, it is not an enemy who insults me, or else I could bear it; it is not one who hates me who arrogantly taunts me, or else I could hide from him.

How then would the scriptures that say it must happen this way be fulfilled?”

David himself, by the Holy Spirit, said,‘The Lord said to my lord,“Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet.”’

Betrayal and Arrest While he was still speaking, suddenly a crowd appeared, and the man named Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He walked up to Jesus to kiss him.

so that the word of the prophet Isaiah would be fulfilled. He said,“Lord, who has believed our message, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”

(Now Judas, the one who betrayed him, knew the place too, because Jesus had met there many times with his disciples.)

For these things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled,“Not a bone of his will be broken.”

this man, who was handed over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you executed by nailing him to a cross at the hands of Gentiles.

The Response to Peter’s Address Now when they heard this, they were acutely distressed and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles,“What should we do, brothers?”

So he replied,“Brothers and fathers, listen to me. The God of glory appeared to our forefather Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he settled in Haran,

Brothers, descendants of Abraham’s family, and those Gentiles among you who fear God, the message of this salvation has been sent to us.

After there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them,“Brothers, you know that some time ago God chose me to preach to the Gentiles so they would hear the message of the gospel and believe.

Paul’s Defense“Brothers and fathers, listen to my defense that I now make to you.”

Then when Paul noticed that part of them were Sadducees and the others Pharisees, he shouted out in the council,“Brothers, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees. I am on trial concerning the hope of the resurrection of the dead!”

So they began to leave, unable to agree among themselves, after Paul made one last statement:“The Holy Spirit spoke rightly to your ancestors through the prophet Isaiah

They probed into what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when he testified beforehand about the sufferings appointed for Christ and his subsequent glory.
