This is what the LORD says, the Holy One of Israel, the one who formed him, concerning things to come:“How dare you question me about my children! How dare you tell me what to do with the work of my own hands!
Leave Babylon! Flee from the Babylonians! Announce it with a shout of joy! Make this known! Proclaim it throughout the earth! Say,‘The LORD protects his servant Jacob.
I will make your oppressors eat their own flesh; they will get drunk on their own blood, as if it were wine. Then all humankind will recognize that I am the LORD, your deliverer, your protector, the Powerful One of Jacob.”
Don’t be afraid, for you will not be put to shame! Don’t be intimidated, for you will not be humiliated! You will forget about the shame you experienced in your youth; you will no longer remember the disgrace of your abandonment.
They will be called,“The Holy People, the Ones Protected by the LORD.” You will be called,“Sought After, City Not Abandoned.”
For you are our father, though Abraham does not know us and Israel does not recognize us. You, LORD, are our father; you have been called our protector from ancient times.
“You have surely noticed what these people are saying, haven’t you? They are saying,‘The LORD has rejected the two families of Israel and Judah that he chose.’ So they have little regard that my people will ever again be a nation.
But the one who will rescue them is strong. His name is the LORD of Heaven’s Armies. He will strongly champion their cause. As a result he will bring peace and rest to the earth, but trouble and turmoil to the people who inhabit Babylonia.
“‘Then I passed by you and watched you, noticing that you had reached the age for love. I spread my cloak over you and covered your nakedness. I swore a solemn oath to you and entered into a marriage covenant with you, declares the Sovereign LORD, and you became mine.
“They will belong to me,” says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies,“in the day when I prepare my own special property. I will spare them as a man spares his son who serves him.
Therefore keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will be just as I have been told.
However, God’s solid foundation remains standing, bearing this seal:“The Lord knows those who are his,” and“Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from evil.”
But showing its fault, God says to them,“Look, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will complete a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.
