The Consequences of Disobedience“‘If, however, you do not obey me and keep all these commandments–

“‘If you walk in hostility against me and are not willing to obey me, I will increase your affliction seven times according to your sins.

But I will certainly hide myself at that time because of all the wickedness they will have done by turning to other gods.

Dogs will eat the members of your family who die in the city, and the birds of the sky will eat the ones who die in the country.”’ Indeed, the LORD has announced it!

The LORD was furious with Israel and handed them over to King Hazael of Syria and to Hazael’s son Ben Hadad for many years.

But they mocked God’s messengers, despised his warnings, and ridiculed his prophets. Finally the LORD got very angry at his people and there was no one who could prevent his judgment.

The earth heaved and shook; the roots of the mountains trembled; they heaved because he was angry.

Your thunderous voice was heard in the wind; the lightning bolts lit up the world; the earth trembled and shook.

They were destroyed at En Dor; their corpses were like manure on the ground.

Tremble, O earth, before the Lord– before the God of Jacob,

Syria from the east, and the Philistines from the west, they gobbled up Israelite territory. Despite all this, his anger does not subside, and his hand is ready to strike again.

So put on sackcloth! Mourn and wail, saying,‘The fierce anger of the LORD has not turned away from us!’”

Their houses will be turned over to others as will their fields and their wives. For I will unleash my power against those who live in this land,”says the LORD.

Tell your daughters and neighbors,‘The LORD says,“The dead bodies of people will lie scattered everywhere like manure scattered on a field. They will lie scattered on the ground like grain that has been cut down but has not been gathered.”’”

They will die of deadly diseases. No one will mourn for them. They will not be buried. Their dead bodies will lie like manure spread on the ground. They will be killed in war or die of starvation. Their corpses will be food for the birds and wild animals.

unless you have utterly rejected us and are angry with us beyond measure.

“Therefore, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: Like the wood of the vine is among the trees of the forest which I have provided as fuel for the fire– so I will provide the residents of Jerusalem as fuel.

Divine Promise to Relent from Judgment and to Restore Blessings“I will heal their waywardness and love them freely, for my anger will turn away from them.

The mountains tremble before him, the hills convulse; the earth is laid waste before him, the world and all its inhabitants are laid waste.

I will bring distress on the people and they will stumble like blind men, for they have sinned against the LORD. Their blood will be poured out like dirt; their flesh will be scattered like manure.

The Great White Throne Then I saw a large white throne and the one who was seated on it; the earth and the heaven fled from his presence, and no place was found for them.
