She asked Elijah,“Why, prophet, have you come to me to confront me with my sin and kill my son?”

I know, my God, that you examine thoughts and are pleased with integrity. With pure motives I contribute all this; and now I look with joy as your people who have gathered here contribute to you.

The LORD judges the nations. Vindicate me, LORD, because I am innocent, because I am blameless, O Exalted One!

I, the LORD, probe into people’s minds. I examine people’s hearts. I deal with each person according to how he has behaved. I give them what they deserve based on what they have done.

And the king will answer them,‘I tell you the truth, just as you did it for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of mine, you did it for me.’

Immediately a rooster crowed a second time. Then Peter remembered what Jesus had said to him:“Before a rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” And he broke down and wept.

But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people.

For you will always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me!”

Now we know that you know everything and do not need anyone to ask you anything. Because of this we believe that you have come from God.”

Then Peter denied it again, and immediately a rooster crowed.

Then they prayed,“Lord, you know the hearts of all. Show us which one of these two you have chosen

And God, who knows the heart, has testified to them by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us,

For out of great distress and anguish of heart I wrote to you with many tears, not to make you sad, but to let you know the love that I have especially for you.

I am not saying this as a command, but I am testing the genuineness of your love by comparison with the eagerness of others.

This brings you great joy, although you may have to suffer for a short time in various trials.
