You must not make gods of silver alongside me, nor make gods of gold for yourselves.

You must not make yourselves molten gods.

Do not turn to idols, and you must not make for yourselves gods of cast metal. I am the LORD your God.

I say this so you will not corrupt yourselves by making an image in the form of any kind of figure. This includes the likeness of a human male or female,

Examples of Legal Cases You must not plant any kind of tree as a sacred Asherah pole near the altar of the LORD your God which you build for yourself.

The Danites worshiped the carved image. Jonathan, descendant of Gershom, son of Moses, and his descendants served as priests for the tribe of Dan until the time of the exile.

They set up sacred pillars and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every green tree.

All who worship idols are ashamed, those who boast about worthless idols. All the gods bow down before him.

At that time men will throw their silver and gold idols, which they made for themselves to worship, into the caves where rodents and bats live,

I announced them to you beforehand; before they happened, I predicted them for you, so you could never say,‘My image did these things, my idol, my cast image, decreed them.’

So since we are God’s offspring, we should not think the deity is like gold or silver or stone, an image made by human skill and imagination.

Am I saying that idols or food sacrificed to them amount to anything?

Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the sexually immoral, and the murderers, and the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood!
