Back to passage

Everyone who crosses over to those who are numbered is to pay this: a half shekel according to the shekel of the sanctuary(a shekel weighs twenty gerahs). The half shekel is to be an offering to the LORD.

Animal from the Flock“‘If his offering is from the flock for a burnt offering– from the sheep or the goats– he must present a flawless male,

Additional Sin Offering Regulations“‘When a person sins in that he hears a public curse against one who fails to testify and he is a witness(he either saw or knew what had happened) and he does not make it known, then he will bear his punishment for iniquity.

and must bring a flawless ram from the flock, convertible into silver shekels, for a guilt offering to the priest. So the priest will make atonement on his behalf for his error which he committed(although he himself had not known it) and he will be forgiven.

The Guilt Offering“‘This is the law of the guilt offering. It is most holy.

“Why did you not eat the sin offering in the sanctuary? For it is most holy and he gave it to you to bear the iniquity of the congregation, to make atonement on their behalf before the LORD.

Regulations for the Eating of Priestly Stipends The LORD spoke to Moses:

“You must take choice wheat flour and bake twelve loaves; there must be two tenths of an ephah of flour in each loaf,

I will walk among you, and I will be your God and you will be my people.

“‘If in spite of these things you do not allow yourselves to be disciplined and you walk in hostility against me,

Redemption of Vowed Animals“‘If what is vowed is a kind of animal from which an offering may be presented to the LORD, anything which he gives to the LORD from this kind of animal will be holy.

But if the individual has no close relative to whom reparation can be made for the wrong, the reparation for the wrong must be paid to the LORD for the priest, in addition to the ram of atonement by which atonement is made for him.

But you must seek only the place he chooses from all your tribes to establish his name as his place of residence, and you must go there.

Giving God the Best You must set apart for the LORD your God every firstborn male born to your herds and flocks. You must not work the firstborn of your bulls or shear the firstborn of your flocks.

(The silver collected in conjunction with reparation offerings and sin offerings was not brought to the LORD’s temple; it belonged to the priests.)

In the porch of the gate were two tables on either side on which to slaughter the burnt offering, the sin offering, and the guilt offering.
