You must say to Pharaoh,‘This is what the LORD has said,“Israel is my son, my firstborn,

Each of you must respect his mother and his father, and you must keep my Sabbaths. I am the LORD your God.

Is this how you repay the LORD, you foolish, unwise people? Is he not your father, your Creator? He has made you and established you.

There is a generation who curse their fathers and do not bless their mothers.

Obedience, not Sacrifice Listen, O heavens, pay attention, O earth! For the LORD speaks:“I raised children, I brought them up, but they have rebelled against me!

No one invokes your name, or makes an effort to take hold of you. For you have rejected us and handed us over to our own sins.

I planted you in the land like a special vine of the very best stock. Why in the world have you turned into something like a wild vine that produces rotten, foul-smelling grapes?

Moreover, the LORD says,“Both the prophets and priests are godless. I have even found them doing evil in my temple!

Yes, the descendants of Jonadab son of Rechab have carried out the orders that their ancestor gave them. But you people have not obeyed me!

You have destroyed my people by failing to acknowledge me! Because you refuse to acknowledge me, I will reject you as my priests. Because you reject the law of your God, I will reject your descendants.

Ephraim boasts,“I am very rich! I have become wealthy! In all that I have done to gain my wealth, no one can accuse me of any offense that is actually sinful.”

Yet you ask,“Why?” The LORD is testifying against you on behalf of the wife you married when you were young, to whom you have become unfaithful even though she is your companion and wife by law.

From the days of your ancestors you have ignored my commandments and have not kept them! Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies.“But you say,‘How should we return?’

So pray this way: Our Father in heaven, may your name be honored,

Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

But the expert, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus,“And who is my neighbor?”

You call me‘Teacher’ and‘Lord,’ and do so correctly, for that is what I am.

Those who are under the yoke as slaves must regard their own masters as deserving of full respect. This will prevent the name of God and Christian teaching from being discredited.

And if you address as Father the one who impartially judges according to each one’s work, live out the time of your temporary residence here in reverence.
