Al-Saʽid Baraka, son of Wajh al-Muhr, the Beneficent.
He was a man of the thirteenth century, wealthy and devout. He met Pope Matthew I and said to him: "I beg you, my father, to pray for me, that Christ may soften my heart so that I may distribute my wealth among the needy; and I ask also that you petition that the hour of my departure may be in your presence."
The Pope answered him: "According to your faith be it unto you."
God granted this man a tender heart, and he set about distributing his wealth to everyone who asked of him. After a time it came about that he went to visit the Pope, and while he was seated in his presence his soul passed over to its Creator. So the Pope arose and shrouded him with his own hands, saying: "You asked and it was given to you; you sought and you found; you knocked and it was opened to you."
