The Martyrdom of Saint Worsenofius

On this day, Saint Worsenofius was martyred. He was a learned, pious, and devout man. When he was sought for the episcopate, he fled to the town of Tahmun (mentioned in the Galgamun manuscript, possibly meaning Delgamun). He stayed with two Christian brothers who loved God. The angel of the Lord appeared to him and commanded him to go to the governor and confess Christ. Upon awakening, he informed the two brothers of his vision, and they agreed together and went to the governor, confessing the name of Christ. They were severely tortured, then taken to Sanhour where they were also tortured. Then they were taken to Sa, where the governor gathered all the confessors and read to them the king's order to worship idols. This saint leapt forward, snatched the record, and tore it. The governor became angry and ordered him to be thrown into the furnace. Thus he received the crown of martyrdom.

His prayers be with us. And to our Lord be glory forever. Amen.
