A fterH310 these things,H1697 and this faithfulness,H571 SennacheribH5576 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 came,H935 and enteredH935 into Judah,H3063 and encampedH2583 against the fortifiedH1219 cities,H5892 and thoughtH559 to winH1234 them for himself.
And when HezekiahH3169 sawH7200 that SennacheribH5576 was come,H935 and that he was purposedH6440 to fightH4421 against Jerusalem,H3389
he took counselH3289 with his princesH8269 and his mighty menH1368 to stopH5640 the watersH4325 of the fountainsH5869 which were withoutH2351 the city;H5892 and they helpedH5826 him.
So there was gatheredH6908 muchH7227 peopleH5971 together,H6908 and they stoppedH5640 all the fountains,H4599 and the brookH5158 that flowedH7857 through the midstH8432 of the land,H776 saying,H559 Why should the kingsH4428 of AssyriaH804 come,H935 and findH4672 muchH7227 water?H4325
And he took courage,H2388 and built upH1129 all the wallH2346 that was brokenH6555 down, and raised [it] upH5927 to the towers,H4026 and the otherH312 wallH2346 without,H2351 and strengthenedH2388 MilloH4407 [in] the cityH5892 of David,H1732 and madeH6213 weaponsH7973 and shieldsH4043 in abundance.H7230
And he setH5414 captainsH8269 of warH4421 over the people,H5971 and gathered them togetherH6908 to him in the broadH7339 place at the gateH8179 of the city,H5892 and spakeH1696 comfortablyH3824 to them, saying,H559
Be strongH2388 and of good courage,H553 be not afraidH3372 nor dismayedH2865 forH6440 the kingH4428 of Assyria,H804 nor for all the multitudeH1995 that is with him; for there is a greaterH7227 with us than with him:
with him is an armH2220 of flesh;H1320 but with us is JehovahH3068 our GodH430 to helpH5826 us, and to fightH3898 our battles.H4421 And the peopleH5971 restedH5564 themselves upon the wordsH1697 of HezekiahH3169 kingH4428 of Judah.H3063
AfterH310 this did SennacheribH5576 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 sendH7971 his servantsH5650 to Jerusalem,H3389 (now he was before Lachish,H3923 and all his powerH4475 with him,) unto HezekiahH3169 kingH4428 of Judah,H3063 and unto all JudahH3063 that were at Jerusalem,H3389 saying,H559
Thus saithH559 SennacheribH5576 kingH4428 of Assyria,H804 Whereon do ye trust,H982 that ye abideH3427 the siegeH4692 in Jerusalem?H3389
Doth not HezekiahH3169 persuadeH5496 you, to giveH5414 you over to dieH4191 by famineH7458 and by thirst,H6772 saying,H559 JehovahH3068 our GodH430 will deliverH5337 us out of the handH3709 of the kingH4428 of Assyria?H804
Hath not the same HezekiahH3169 taken awayH5493 his high placesH1116 and his altars,H4196 and commandedH559 JudahH3063 and Jerusalem,H3389 saying,H559 Ye shall worshipH7812 beforeH6440 oneH259 altar,H4196 and upon it shall ye burn incense?H6999
KnowH3045 ye not what I and my fathersH1 have doneH6213 unto all the peoplesH5971 of the lands?H776 Were the godsH430 of the nationsH1471 of the landsH776 in any wiseH3201 ableH3201 to deliverH5337 their landH776 out of my hand?H3027
Who was there among all the godsH430 of those nationsH1471 which my fathersH1 utterly destroyed,H2763 that couldH3201 deliverH5337 his peopleH5971 out of my hand,H3027 that your GodH430 should be ableH3201 to deliverH5337 you out of my hand?H3027
Now therefore let notH3808 HezekiahH2396 deceiveH5377 you, nor persuadeH5496 you after this manner, neither believeH539 ye him; for no godH433 of any nationH1471 or kingdomH4467 was ableH3201 to deliverH5337 his peopleH5971 out of my hand,H3027 and out of the handH3027 of my fathers:H1 how much less shall your GodH430 deliverH5337 you out of my hand?H3027
And his servantsH5650 spakeH1696 yet more against JehovahH3068 God,H430 and against his servantH5650 Hezekiah.H3169
He wroteH3789 also letters,H5612 to railH2778 on Jehovah,H3068 the GodH430 of Israel,H3478 and to speakH559 against him, saying,H559 As the godsH430 of the nationsH1471 of the lands,H776 which have not deliveredH5337 their peopleH5971 out of my hand,H3027 so shall not the GodH430 of HezekiahH3169 deliverH5337 his peopleH5971 out of my hand.H3027
And they criedH7121 with a loudH1419 voiceH6963 in the Jews' languageH3066 unto the peopleH5971 of JerusalemH3389 that were on the wall,H2346 to affrightH3372 them, and to troubleH926 them; that they might takeH3920 the city.H5892
And they spakeH1696 ofH5921 the GodH430 of Jerusalem,H3389 as of the godsH430 of the peoplesH5971 of the earth,H776 which are the workH4639 of men'sH120 hands.H3027
And HezekiahH3169 the king,H4428 and IsaiahH3470 the prophetH5030 the sonH1121 of Amoz,H531 prayedH6419 because of this, and criedH2199 to heaven.H8064
And JehovahH3068 sentH7971 an angel,H4397 who cut offH3582 all the mighty menH1368 of valor,H2428 and the leadersH5057 and captains,H8269 in the campH4264 of the kingH4428 of Assyria.H804 So he returnedH7725 with shameH1322 of faceH6440 to his own land.H776 And when he was comeH935 into the houseH1004 of his god,H430 they that came forthH3329 from his own bowelsH4578 slewH5307 him there with the sword.H2719
Thus JehovahH3068 savedH3467 HezekiahH3169 and the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389 from the handH3027 of SennacheribH5576 the kingH4428 of Assyria,H804 and from the handH3027 of all others, and guidedH5095 them on every side.H5439
And manyH7227 broughtH935 giftsH4503 unto JehovahH3068 to Jerusalem,H3389 and preciousH4030 things to HezekiahH3169 kingH4428 of Judah;H3063 so that he was exaltedH5375 in the sightH5869 of all nationsH1471 from thenceforth.H310
In those daysH3117 HezekiahH3169 was sickH2470 even unto death:H4191 and he prayedH6419 unto Jehovah;H3068 and he spakeH559 unto him, and gaveH5414 him a sign.H4159
But HezekiahH3169 rendered not againH7725 according to the benefitH1576 done unto him; for his heartH3820 was lifted up:H1361 therefore there was wrathH7110 upon him, and upon JudahH3063 and Jerusalem.H3389
Notwithstanding HezekiahH3169 humbledH3665 himself for the prideH1363 of his heart,H3820 both he and the inhabitantsH3427 of Jerusalem,H3389 so that the wrathH7110 of JehovahH3068 cameH935 not upon them in the daysH3117 of Hezekiah.H3169
And HezekiahH3169 had exceedingH3966 muchH7235 richesH6239 and honor:H3519 and he providedH6213 him treasuriesH214 for silver,H3701 and for gold,H2091 and for preciousH3368 stones,H68 and for spices,H1314 and for shields,H4043 and for all manner of goodlyH2532 vessels;H3627
store-housesH4543 also for the increaseH8393 of grainH1715 and new wineH8492 and oil;H3323 and stallsH723 for all manner of beasts,H929 and flocksH5739 in folds.H220
Moreover he providedH6213 him cities,H5892 and possessionsH4735 of flocksH6629 and herdsH1241 in abundance;H7230 for GodH430 had givenH5414 him veryH3966 muchH7227 substance.H7399
This same HezekiahH3169 also stoppedH5640 the upperH5945 springH4161 of the waters of Gihon,H1521 and brought them straightH3474 downH4295 on the west sideH4628 of the cityH5892 of David.H1732 And HezekiahH3169 prosperedH6743 in all his works.H4639
HowbeitH3651 in [the business of] the ambassadorsH3887 of the princesH8269 of Babylon,H894 who sentH7971 unto him to inquireH1875 of the wonderH4159 that was done in the land,H776 GodH430 leftH5800 him, to tryH5254 him, that he might knowH3045 all that was in his heart.H3824
Now the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of Hezekiah,H3169 and his goodH2617 deeds, behold, they are writtenH3789 in the visionH2377 of IsaiahH3470 the prophetH5030 the sonH1121 of Amoz,H531 in the bookH5612 of the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063 and Israel.H3478
And HezekiahH3169 sleptH7901 with his fathers,H1 and they buriedH6912 him in the ascentH4608 of the sepulchresH6913 of the sonsH1121 of David:H1732 and all JudahH3063 and the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389 did himH6213 honorH3519 at his death.H4194 And ManassehH4519 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead.
