A nd it was toldH5046 Joab,H3097 Behold, the kingH4428 weepethH1058 and mournethH56 for Absalom.H53

And the victoryH8668 that dayH3117 was turned into mourningH60 unto all the people;H5971 for the peopleH5971 heardH8085 sayH559 that day,H3117 The kingH4428 grievethH6087 for his son.H1121

And the peopleH5971 gatH935 them by stealthH1589 that dayH3117 into the city,H5892 as peopleH5971 that are ashamedH3637 steal awayH1589 when they fleeH5127 in battle.H4421

And the kingH4428 coveredH3813 his face,H6440 and the kingH4428 criedH2199 with a loudH1419 voice,H6963 O my sonH1121 Absalom,H53 O Absalom,H53 my son,H1121 my son!H1121

And JoabH3097 cameH935 into the houseH1004 to the king,H4428 and said,H559 Thou hast shamedH3001 this dayH3117 the facesH6440 of all thy servants,H5650 who this dayH3117 have savedH4422 thy life,H5315 and the livesH5315 of thy sonsH1121 and of thy daughters,H1323 and the livesH5315 of thy wives,H802 and the livesH5315 of thy concubines;H6370

in that thou lovestH157 them that hateH8130 thee, and hatestH8130 them that loveH157 thee. For thou hast declaredH5046 this day,H3117 that princesH8269 and servantsH5650 are nought unto thee: for this dayH3117 I perceive,H3045 that ifH3863 AbsalomH53 had lived,H2416 and all we had diedH4191 this day,H3117 then it had pleased thee well.H3477

Now therefore arise,H6965 go forth,H3318 and speakH1696 comfortablyH3820 unto thy servants;H5650 for I swearH7650 by Jehovah,H3068 if thou go not forth,H3318 there will not tarryH3885 a manH376 with thee this night:H3915 and that will be worseH7489 unto thee than all the evilH7451 that hath befallenH935 thee from thy youthH5271 until now.

Then the kingH4428 arose,H6965 and satH3427 in the gate.H8179 And they toldH5046 unto all the people,H5971 saying,H559 Behold, the kingH4428 is sittingH3427 in the gate:H8179 and all the peopleH5971 cameH935 beforeH6440 the king.H4428 Now IsraelH3478 had fledH5127 every manH376 to his tent.H168

And all the peopleH5971 were at strifeH1777 throughout all the tribesH7626 of Israel,H3478 saying,H559 The kingH4428 deliveredH5337 us out of the handH3709 of our enemies,H341 and he savedH4422 us out of the handH3709 of the Philistines;H6430 and now he is fledH1272 out of the landH776 from Absalom.H53

And Absalom,H53 whom we anointedH4886 over us, is deadH4191 in battle.H4421 Now therefore why speakH2790 ye not a word of bringingH7725 the kingH4428 back?H7725

And kingH4428 DavidH1732 sentH7971 to ZadokH6659 and to AbiatharH54 the priests,H3548 saying,H559 SpeakH1696 unto the eldersH2205 of Judah,H3063 saying,H559 Why are ye the lastH314 to bringH7725 the kingH4428 backH7725 to his house?H1004 seeing the speechH1697 of all IsraelH3478 is comeH935 to the king,H4428 [to bring him] to his house.H1004

Ye are my brethren,H251 ye are my boneH6106 and my flesh:H1320 wherefore then are ye the lastH314 to bring backH7725 the king?H4428

And sayH559 ye to Amasa,H6021 Art thou not my boneH6106 and my flesh?H1320 GodH430 doH6213 so to me, and moreH3254 also, if thou be not captainH8269 of the hostH6635 beforeH6440 me continuallyH3117 in the roomH8478 of Joab.H3097

And he bowedH5186 the heartH3824 of all the menH376 of Judah,H3063 even as [the heart of] oneH259 man;H376 so that they sentH7971 unto the king,H4428 [saying], ReturnH7725 thou, and all thy servants.H5650

So the kingH4428 returned,H7725 and cameH935 to the Jordan.H3383 And JudahH3063 cameH935 to Gilgal,H1537 to goH3212 to meetH7125 the king,H4428 to bringH5674 the kingH4428 overH5674 the Jordan.H3383

And ShimeiH8096 the sonH1121 of Gera,H1617 the Benjamite,H1145 who was of Bahurim,H980 hastedH4116 and came downH3381 with the menH376 of JudahH3063 to meetH7125 kingH4428 David.H1732

And there were a thousandH505 menH376 of BenjaminH1145 with him, and ZibaH6717 the servantH5288 of the houseH1004 of Saul,H7586 and his fifteenH2568 sonsH1121 and his twentyH6242 servantsH5650 with him; and they went throughH6743 the JordanH3383 in the presenceH6440 of the king.H4428

And there went overH5674 a ferry-boatH5679 to bring overH5674 the king'sH4428 household,H1004 and to doH6213 what he thoughtH5869 good.H2896 And ShimeiH8096 the sonH1121 of GeraH1617 fell downH5307 beforeH6440 the king,H4428 when he was come overH5674 the Jordan.H3383

And he saidH559 unto the king,H4428 Let not my lordH113 imputeH2803 iniquityH5771 unto me, neither do thou rememberH2142 that which thy servantH5650 did perverselyH5753 the dayH3117 that my lordH113 the kingH4428 went outH3318 of Jerusalem,H3389 that the kingH4428 should takeH7760 it to his heart.H3820

For thy servantH5650 doth knowH3045 that I have sinned:H2398 therefore, behold, I am comeH935 this dayH3117 the firstH7223 of all the houseH1004 of JosephH3130 to go downH3381 to meetH7125 my lordH113 the king.H4428

But AbishaiH52 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870 answeredH6030 and said,H559 Shall not ShimeiH8096 be put to deathH4191 for this, because he cursedH7043 Jehovah'sH3068 anointed?H4899

And DavidH1732 said,H559 What have I to do with you, ye sonsH1121 of Zeruiah,H6870 that ye should this dayH3117 be adversariesH7854 unto me? shall there any manH376 be put to deathH4191 this dayH3117 in Israel?H3478 for do not I knowH3045 that I am this dayH3117 kingH4428 over Israel?H3478

And the kingH4428 saidH559 unto Shimei,H8096 Thou shalt not die.H4191 And the kingH4428 swareH7650 unto him.

And MephiboshethH4648 the sonH1121 of SaulH7586 came downH3381 to meetH7125 the king;H4428 and he had neitherH3808 dressedH6213 his feet,H7272 nor trimmedH6213 his beard,H8222 nor washedH3526 his clothes,H899 from the dayH3117 the kingH4428 departedH3212 until the dayH3117 he cameH935 home in peace.H7965

And it came to pass, when he was comeH935 to JerusalemH3389 to meetH7125 the king,H4428 that the kingH4428 saidH559 unto him, Wherefore wentestH1980 not thou with me, Mephibosheth?H4648

And he answered,H559 My lord,H113 O king,H4428 my servantH5650 deceivedH7411 me: for thy servantH5650 said,H559 I will saddleH2280 me an ass,H2543 that I may rideH7392 thereon, and goH3212 with the king;H4428 because thy servantH5650 is lame.H6455

And he hath slanderedH7270 thy servantH5650 unto my lordH113 the king;H4428 but my lordH113 the kingH4428 is as an angelH4397 of God:H430 doH6213 therefore what is goodH2896 in thine eyes.H5869

For all my father'sH1 houseH1004 were butH3808 deadH4194 menH582 before my lordH113 the king;H4428 yet didst thou setH7896 thy servantH5650 among them that did eatH398 at thine own table.H7979 What rightH6666 therefore haveH3426 I yet that I should cryH2199 any more unto the king?H4428

And the kingH4428 saidH559 unto him, Why speakestH1696 thou any more of thy matters?H1697 I say,H559 Thou and ZibaH6717 divideH2505 the land.H7704

And MephiboshethH4648 saidH559 unto the king,H4428 yea, let him takeH3947 all, forasmuchH310 asH834 my lordH113 the kingH4428 is comeH935 in peaceH7965 unto his own house.H1004

And BarzillaiH1271 the GileaditeH1569 came downH3381 from Rogelim;H7274 and he went overH5674 the JordanH3383 with the king,H4428 to conductH7971 him over the Jordan.H3383

Now BarzillaiH1271 was a veryH3966 agedH2204 man, even fourscoreH8084 yearsH8141 old:H1121 and he had provided the kingH4428 with sustenanceH3557 while he layH7871 at Mahanaim;H4266 for he was a veryH3966 greatH1419 man.H376

And the kingH4428 saidH559 unto Barzillai,H1271 Come thou overH5674 with me, and I will sustainH3557 thee with me in Jerusalem.H3389

And BarzillaiH1271 saidH559 unto the king,H4428 How manyH3117 are the days of the years of my life,H8141 that I should go upH5927 with the kingH4428 unto Jerusalem?H3389

I am this dayH3117 fourscoreH8084 yearsH8141 old:H1121 can I discernH3045 between goodH2896 and bad?H7451 can thy servantH5650 tasteH2938 whatH834 I eatH398 or whatH834 I drink?H8354 can I hearH8085 any more the voiceH6963 of singing menH7891 and singing women?H7891 wherefore then should thy servantH5650 be yet a burdenH4853 unto my lordH113 the king?H4428

Thy servantH5650 would but justH4592 goH5674 overH5674 the JordanH3383 with the king:H4428 and why should the kingH4428 recompenseH1580 it me with such a reward?H1578

Let thy servant,H5650 I pray thee, turn back again,H7725 that I may dieH4191 in mine own city,H5892 by the graveH6913 of my fatherH1 and my mother.H517 But behold, thy servantH5650 Chimham;H3643 let him go overH5674 with my lordH113 the king;H4428 and doH6213 to him what shall seem goodH2896 unto thee.

And the kingH4428 answered,H559 ChimhamH3643 shall goH5674 over with me, and I will doH6213 to him that which shall seem goodH2896 unto thee: and whatsoever thou shalt requireH977 of me, that will I doH6213 for thee.

And all the peopleH5971 went overH5674 the Jordan,H3383 and the kingH4428 went over:H5674 and the kingH4428 kissedH5401 Barzillai,H1271 and blessedH1288 him; and he returnedH7725 unto his own place.H4725

So the kingH4428 went overH5674 to Gilgal,H1537 and ChimhamH3643 went overH5674 with him: and all the peopleH5971 of JudahH3063 broughtH5674 the kingH4428 over, and also halfH2677 the peopleH5971 of Israel.H3478

And, behold, all the menH376 of IsraelH3478 cameH935 to the king,H4428 and saidH559 unto the king,H4428 Why have our brethrenH251 the menH376 of JudahH3063 stolen thee away,H1589 and broughtH5674 the king,H4428 and his household,H1004 over the Jordan,H3383 and all David'sH1732 menH582 with him?

And all the menH376 of JudahH3063 answeredH6030 the menH376 of Israel,H3478 Because the kingH4428 is near of kinH7138 to us: wherefore then are ye angryH2734 for this matter?H1697 have we eatenH398 at allH398 at the king'sH4428 cost? or hath he givenH5375 us any gift?H5379

And the menH376 of IsraelH3478 answeredH6030 the menH376 of Judah,H3063 and said,H559 We have tenH6235 partsH3027 in the king,H4428 and weH589 have also more [right] in DavidH1732 than ye: why then did ye despiseH7043 us, that our adviceH1697 should not be firstH7223 had in bringing backH7725 our king?H4428 And the wordsH1697 of the menH376 of JudahH3063 were fiercerH7185 than the wordsH1697 of the menH376 of Israel.H3478
