ASVs · الأصحاح 2
I saidH559 in my heart,H3820 Come now,H3212 I will proveH5254 thee with mirth;H8057 therefore enjoyH7200 pleasure:H2896 and, behold, this also was vanity.H1892
I saidH559 of laughter,H7814 It is mad;H1984 and of mirth,H8057 WhatH2090 doethH6213 it?
I searchedH8446 in my heartH3820 how to cheerH4900 myH1320 flesh with wine,H3196 my heartH3820 yet guidingH5090 [me] with wisdom,H2451 and how to lay holdH270 on folly,H5531 till I might seeH7200 what it was goodH2896 for the sonsH1121 of menH120 that they should doH6213 under heavenH8064 allH4557 the daysH3117 of their life.H2416
I made me greatH1431 works;H4639 I buildedH1129 me houses;H1004 I plantedH5193 me vineyards;H3754
I madeH6213 me gardensH1593 and parks,H6508 and I plantedH5193 treesH6086 in them of all kinds of fruit;H6529
I madeH6213 me poolsH1295 of water,H4325 to waterH8248 therefrom the forestH3293 where treesH3293 were reared;H6779
I boughtH7069 men-servantsH5650 and maid-servants,H8198 and had servants bornH1121 in my house;H1004 also I had greatH7235 possessionsH4735 of herdsH6629 and flocks, aboveH1241 all that were beforeH6440 me in Jerusalem;H3389
I gatheredH3664 me also silverH3701 and gold,H2091 and the treasureH5459 of kingsH4428 and of the provinces;H4082 I gatH6213 me men-singersH7891 and women-singers,H7891 and the delightsH8588 of the sonsH1121 of men,H120 musical instruments,H7705 and that of all sorts.
So I was great,H1431 and increasedH3254 more than all that were beforeH6440 me in Jerusalem:H3389 also my wisdomH2451 remainedH5975 with me.
And whatsoever mine eyesH5869 desiredH7592 I keptH680 not from them; I withheldH4513 not my heartH3820 from any joy;H8057 for my heartH3820 rejoicedH8056 because of all my labor;H5999 and this was my portionH2506 from all my labor.H5999
Then I lookedH6437 on all the worksH4639 that my handsH3027 had wrought,H6213 and on the laborH5999 that I had laboredH5999 to do;H6213 and, behold, all was vanityH1892 and a strivingH7469 after wind,H7307 and there was no profitH3504 under the sun.H8121
And I turnedH6437 myself to beholdH7200 wisdom,H2451 and madness,H1947 and folly:H5531 for what [can] the manH120 [do] that comethH935 afterH310 the king?H4428 [even] that which hath been doneH6213 long ago.H3528
Then I sawH7200 thatH3426 wisdomH2451 excellethH3504 folly,H5531 as far as lightH216 excellethH3504 darkness.H2822
The wise man'sH2450 eyesH5869 are in his head,H7218 and the foolH3684 walkethH1980 in darkness:H2822 and yet I perceivedH3045 that oneH259 eventH4745 happenethH7136 to them all.
ThenH227 saidH559 I in my heart,H3820 As it happenethH4745 to the fool,H3684 so will it happenH7136 even to me;H1571 and why was I then moreH3148 wise?H2449 Then saidH1696 I in my heart,H3820 that this also is vanity.H1892
For of the wiseH2450 man, even asH5973 of the fool,H3684 there is no remembranceH2146 for ever;H5769 seeingH3528 that in the daysH3117 to comeH935 all will have been long forgotten.H7911 And how doth the wiseH2450 man dieH4191 even as the fool!H3684
So I hatedH8130 life,H2416 because the workH4639 that is wroughtH6213 under the sunH8121 was grievousH7451 unto me; for all is vanityH1892 and a strivingH7469 after wind.H7307
And I hatedH8130 all my laborH5999 wherein I laboredH5999 under the sun,H8121 seeing that I must leaveH3240 it unto the manH120 that shall be afterH310 me.
And who knowethH3045 whether he will be a wiseH2450 man or a fool?H5530 yet will he have ruleH7980 over all my laborH5999 wherein I have labored,H5999 and wherein I have showed myself wiseH2449 under the sun.H8121 This also is vanity.H1892
Therefore I turned aboutH5437 to causeH2976 my heartH3820 to despairH2976 concerning all the laborH5999 wherein I had laboredH5999 under the sun.H8121
For there isH3426 a manH120 whose laborH5999 is with wisdom,H2451 and with knowledge,H1847 and with skilfulness;H3788 yet to a manH120 that hath not laboredH5998 therein shall he leaveH5414 it for his portion.H2506 This also is vanityH1892 and a greatH7227 evil.H7451
For what hathH1933 a manH120 of all his labor,H5999 and of the strivingH7475 of his heart,H3820 whereinH1931 he laborethH6001 under the sun?H8121
For all his daysH3117 are [but] sorrows,H4341 and his travailH6045 is grief;H3708 yea, even in the nightH3915 his heartH3820 taketh no rest.H7901 This also is vanity.H1892
There is nothing betterH2896 for a manH120 [than] that he should eatH398 and drink,H8354 and make his soulH5315 enjoyH7200 goodH2896 in his labor.H5999 ThisH2090 also I saw,H7200 that it is from the handH3027 of God.H430
For who can eat,H398 or who can have enjoyment,H2363 moreH2351 than I?
For to the manH120 that pleasethH2896 himH6440 [God] givethH5414 wisdom,H2451 and knowledge,H1847 and joy;H8057 but to the sinnerH2398 he givethH5414 travail,H6045 to gatherH622 and to heap up,H3664 that he may giveH5414 to him thatH6440 pleasethH2896 God.H430 This also is vanityH1892 and a strivingH7469 after wind.H7307
