When the LORD raised up leaders for them, the LORD was with each leader and delivered the people from their enemies while the leader remained alive. The LORD felt sorry for them when they cried out in agony because of what their harsh oppressors did to them.

So Saul feared David, because the LORD was with him but had departed from Saul.

David’s power grew steadily, for the LORD God of Heaven’s Armies was with him.

Solomon demonstrated his loyalty to the LORD by following the practices of his father David, except that he offered sacrifices and burned incense on the high places.

He followed all the sinful practices of his father before him. He was not wholeheartedly devoted to the LORD his God, as his ancestor David had been.

Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned for sixteen years in Jerusalem. He did not do what pleased the LORD his God, in contrast to his ancestor David.

He did what the LORD approved and followed in his ancestor David’s footsteps; he did not deviate to the right or the left.

Asa’s Religious and Military Accomplishments(14:1) Asa did what the LORD his God desired and approved.

He met Asa and told him,“Listen to me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin! The LORD is with you when you are loyal to him. If you seek him, he will respond to you, but if you reject him, he will reject you.

He followed in his father Asa’s footsteps and was careful to do what the LORD approved.

He looked for Ahaziah, who was captured while hiding in Samaria. They brought him to Jehu and then executed him. They did give him a burial, for they reasoned,“He is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with his whole heart.” There was no one in Ahaziah’s family strong enough to rule in his place.

He did what the LORD approved, just as his ancestor David had done.

The LORD of Heaven’s Armies is on our side! The God of Jacob is our protector!(Selah)

A song of ascents. O LORD, for David’s sake remember all his strenuous effort,

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you! Don’t be frightened, for I am your God! I strengthen you– yes, I help you– yes, I uphold you with my saving right hand!

“Look! The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will name him Emmanuel,” which means“God with us.”

The one who had received five talents went off right away and put his money to work and gained five more.
