If the God of my father– the God of Abraham, the one whom Isaac fears– had not been with me, you would certainly have sent me away empty-handed! But God saw how I was oppressed and how hard I worked, and he rebuked you last night.”

And now indeed the cry of the Israelites has come to me, and I have also seen how severely the Egyptians oppress them.

Israel was so severely weakened by Midian that the Israelites cried out to the LORD for help.

But the Israelites said to the LORD,“We have sinned. You do to us as you see fit, but deliver us today!”

But the LORD had mercy on them and felt pity for them. He extended his favor to them because of the promise he had made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He has been unwilling to destroy them or remove them from his presence to this very day.

In his pain Manasseh asked the LORD his God for mercy and truly humbled himself before the God of his ancestors.

The Annals of the Prophets include his prayer, give an account of how the LORD responded to it, record all his sins and unfaithful acts, and identify the sites where he built high places and erected Asherah poles and idols before he humbled himself.

Job 22:27 TSK

You will pray to him and he will hear you, and you will fulfill your vows to him.

When he struck them down, they sought his favor; they turned back and longed for God.

O LORD, in distress they looked for you; they uttered incantations because of your discipline.

They say to a wooden idol,‘You are my father.’ They say to a stone image,‘You gave birth to me.’ Yes, they have turned away from me instead of turning to me. Yet when they are in trouble, they say,‘Come and save us!’
