for the LORD determined to make them obstinate so they would attack Israel. He wanted Israel to annihilate them without mercy, as he had instructed Moses.

But you will be able to counter the advice of Ahithophel if you go back to the city and say to Absalom,‘I will be your servant, O king! Previously I was your father’s servant, and now I will be your servant.’

The king refused to listen to the people, because God was instigating this turn of events so that he might bring to pass the prophetic announcement he had made through Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam son of Nebat.

For he spoke, and it came into existence, he issued the decree, and it stood firm.

There is no wisdom and there is no understanding, and there is no counsel against the LORD.

מ(Mem) Whose command was ever fulfilled unless the Lord decreed it?

The master commended the dishonest manager because he acted shrewdly. For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their contemporaries than the people of light.

For the wisdom of this age is foolishness with God. As it is written,“He catches the wise in their craftiness.”
