“No longer will your name be Jacob,” the man told him,“but Israel, because you have fought with God and with men and have prevailed.”

These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to investigate the land. And Moses gave Hoshea son of Nun the name Joshua.

Abram(that is, Abraham).

Nations will see your vindication, and all kings your splendor. You will be called by a new name that the LORD himself will give you.

But the next day Pashhur released Jeremiah from the stocks. When he did, Jeremiah said to him,“The LORD’s name for you is not‘Pashhur’ but‘Terror is Everywhere.’

She will give birth to a son and you will name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

(as it is written,“I have made you the father of many nations”). He is our father in the presence of God whom he believed– the God who makes the dead alive and summons the things that do not yet exist as though they already do.
