Sarah’s demand displeased Abraham greatly because Ishmael was his son.

But the LORD’s angel called to him from heaven,“Abraham! Abraham!”“Here I am!” he answered.

God spoke to Israel in a vision during the night and said,“Jacob, Jacob!” He replied,“Here I am!”

He cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree. When Moses threw it into the water, the water became safe to drink. There the LORD made for them a binding ordinance, and there he tested them.

Remember the whole way by which he has brought you these forty years through the wilderness so that he might, by humbling you, test you to see if you have it within you to keep his commandments or not.

You must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer, for the LORD your God will be testing you to see if you love him with all your mind and being.

The LORD called to Samuel, and he replied,“Here I am!”

So when the envoys arrived from the Babylonian officials to visit him and inquire about the sign that occurred in the land, God left him alone to test him, in order to know his true motives.

I heard the voice of the Lord say,“Whom will I send? Who will go on our behalf?” I answered,“Here I am, send me!”

By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac. He had received the promises, yet he was ready to offer up his only son.

Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar?
