The Sign of the Covenant When Abram was 99 years old, the LORD appeared to him and said,“I am the Sovereign God. Walk before me and be blameless.

The LORD appeared to Isaac and said,“Do not go down to Egypt; settle down in the land that I will point out to you.

The LORD said to Jacob,“Return to the land of your fathers and to your relatives. I will be with you.”

Jacob Wrestles at Peniel So Jacob went on his way and the angels of God met him.

So Jacob named the place Peniel, explaining,“Certainly I have seen God face to face and have survived.”

God spoke to Israel in a vision during the night and said,“Jacob, Jacob!” He replied,“Here I am!”

In a far-off land the LORD will manifest himself to them. He will say to them,‘I have loved you with an everlasting love. That is why I have continued to be faithful to you.

As for the LORD God Almighty, the LORD is the name by which he is remembered!
