The LORD said to Joshua,“Today I have taken away the disgrace of Egypt from you.” So that place is called Gilgal even to this day.

After the king had consulted with his advisers, he made two golden calves. Then he said to the people,“It is too much trouble for you to go up to Jerusalem. Look, Israel, here are your gods who brought you up from the land of Egypt.”

So the LORD was furious with Israel and rejected them; only the tribe of Judah was left.

He also built high places on the hills of Judah; he encouraged the residents of Jerusalem to be unfaithful to the LORD and led Judah away from the LORD.

When Josiah was king of Judah, the LORD said to me,“Jeremiah, you have no doubt seen what wayward Israel has done. You have seen how she went up to every high hill and under every green tree to give herself like a prostitute to other gods.

“‘As for you, O house of Israel, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: Each of you go and serve your idols, if you will not listen to me. But my holy name will not be profaned again by your sacrifices and your idols.

They consult their wooden idols, and their diviner’s staff answers with an oracle. The wind of prostitution blows them astray; they commit spiritual adultery against their God.

Because of all their evil in Gilgal, I hate them there. On account of their evil deeds, I will drive them out of my land. I will no longer love them; all their rulers are rebels.

The high places of the“House of Wickedness” will be destroyed; it is the place where Israel sins. Thorns and thistles will grow up over its altars. Then they will say to the mountains,“Cover us!” and to the hills,“Fall on us!”

Ephraim continually feeds on the wind; he chases the east wind all day; he multiplies lies and violence. They make treaties with Assyria, and send olive oil as tribute to Egypt.

Jacob in Aram, Israel in Egypt, and Ephraim in Trouble Jacob fled to the country of Aram, then Israel worked to acquire a wife; he tended sheep to pay for her.

Amos 5:5 TSK

Do not seek Bethel! Do not visit Gilgal! Do not journey down to Beer Sheba! For the people of Gilgal will certainly be carried into exile; and Bethel will become a place where disaster abounds.”

Amos 8:14 TSK

These are the ones who now take oaths in the name of the sinful idol goddess of Samaria. They vow,‘As surely as your god lives, O Dan,’ or‘As surely as your beloved one lives, O Beer Sheba!’ But they will fall down and not get up again.”

That servant who knew his master’s will but did not get ready or do what his master asked will receive a severe beating.
