Deceit, Assassination, and Deliverance The Israelites again did evil in the LORD’s sight. The LORD gave King Eglon of Moab control over Israel because they had done evil in the LORD’s sight.

But these people have stubborn and rebellious hearts. They have turned aside and gone their own way.

Recently, however, you yourselves showed a change of heart and did what is pleasing to me. You granted your fellow countrymen their freedom and you made a covenant to that effect in my presence in the house that I have claimed for my own.

The Divine Dilemma: Judgment or Mercy? How can I give you up, O Ephraim? How can I surrender you, O Israel? How can I treat you like Admah? How can I make you like Zeboiim? I have had a change of heart! All my tender compassions are aroused!

But he has no root in himself and does not endure; when trouble or persecution comes because of the word, immediately he falls away.
