Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beer Sheba. There he worshiped the LORD, the eternal God.

Abraham looked up and saw behind him a ram caught in the bushes by its horns. So he went over and got the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son.

He sent young Israelite men, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed young bulls for peace offerings to the LORD.

Now the people were offering sacrifices at the high places, because in those days a temple had not yet been built to honor the LORD.

They even built for themselves high places, sacred pillars, and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every green tree.
