That person sings to others, saying:‘I have sinned and falsified what is right, but I was not punished according to what I deserved.
Yet he is compassionate. He forgives sin and does not destroy. He often holds back his anger, and does not stir up his fury.
But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and merciful God. You are patient and demonstrate great loyal love and faithfulness.
If you, O LORD, were to keep track of sins, O Lord, who could stand before you?
The Lord Will Not Abandon His People For this reason the LORD is ready to show you mercy; he sits on his throne, ready to have compassion on you. Indeed, the LORD is a just God; all who wait for him in faith will be blessed.
The Lord Calls on Israel and Judah to Repent“Go and shout this message to my people in the countries in the north. Tell them,‘Come back to me, wayward Israel,’ says the LORD.‘I will not continue to look on you with displeasure. For I am merciful,’ says the LORD.‘I will not be angry with you forever.
Then you come and stand in my presence in this temple I have claimed as my own and say,“We are safe!” You think you are so safe that you go on doing all those hateful sins!
Then you will remember, be ashamed, and remain silent because of your disgrace when I make atonement for all you have done, declares the Sovereign LORD.’”
He prayed to the LORD and said,“Oh, LORD, this is just what I thought would happen when I was in my own country. This is what I tried to prevent by attempting to escape to Tarshish!– because I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in mercy, and one who relents concerning threatened judgment.
But when he came to his senses he said,‘How many of my father’s hired workers have food enough to spare, but here I am dying from hunger!
God publicly displayed him at his death as the mercy seat accessible through faith. This was to demonstrate his righteousness, because God in his forbearance had passed over the sins previously committed.
The Believer’s Enslavement to God’s Righteousness What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Absolutely not!
For there is no distinction between the Jew and the Greek, for the same Lord is Lord of all, who richly blesses all who call on him.
Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how unfathomable his ways!
– since the eyes of your heart have been enlightened– so that you can know what is the hope of his calling, what is the wealth of his glorious inheritance in the saints,
to demonstrate in the coming ages the surpassing wealth of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
I pray that according to the wealth of his glory he will grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inner person,
God wanted to make known to them the glorious riches of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
But here is why I was treated with mercy: so that in me as the worst, Christ Jesus could demonstrate his utmost patience, as an example for those who are going to believe in him for eternal life.
