¶ And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?

And he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin; The LORD [is] with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.

¶ Not for [any] injustice in mine hands: also my prayer [is] pure.

¶ The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.

¶ I will wash mine hands in innocency: so will I compass thine altar, O LORD:

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

But [it is] good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.

And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.

Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near [me] with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A dry wind of the high places in the wilderness toward the daughter of my people, not to fan, nor to cleanse,

Thou drewest near in the day [that] I called upon thee: thou saidst, Fear not.

¶ Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.

Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye unto me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the LORD of hosts.

‹Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by› [his] ‹fruit.›

‹Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.›

And the Lord said unto him, ‹Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.›

¶ Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope [did]; by the which we draw nigh unto God.
