¶ The wicked desireth the net of evil [men]: but the root of the righteous yieldeth [fruit].
‹Blessed› [are] ‹they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.›
‹And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:›
‹He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.›
‹And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.›
¶ Then said Jesus unto his disciples, ‹If any› [man] ‹will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.›
‹But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.›
Peter answered and said unto him, Though all [men] shall be offended because of thee, [yet] will I never be offended.
And when he had called the people [unto him] with his disciples also, he said unto them, ‹Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.›
‹They on the rock› [are they], ‹which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.›
‹If any› [man] ‹come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.›
Jesus answered them and said, ‹Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.›
Jesus answered them, ‹Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?›
‹I am the vine, ye› [are] ‹the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.›
To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
As many as desire to make a fair shew in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised; only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.
That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
¶ This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.
Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.
For if these things be in you, and abound, they make [you that ye shall] neither [be] barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
‹I know thy works, and where thou dwellest,› [even] ‹where Satan's seat› [is]: ‹and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas› [was] ‹my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.›
