The messengers journeyed from city to city through the land of Ephraim and Manasseh as far as Zebulun, but people mocked and ridiculed them.

But they mocked God’s messengers, despised his warnings, and ridiculed his prophets. Finally the LORD got very angry at his people and there was no one who could prevent his judgment.

Penalties have been prepared for scorners, and floggings for the backs of fools.

For though your people, Israel, are as numerous as the sand on the seashore, only a remnant will come back. Destruction has been decreed; just punishment is about to engulf you.

The Lord Will Judge the Earth Look, the LORD is ready to devastate the earth and leave it in ruins; he will mar its surface and scatter its inhabitants.

Mourn over the field, over the delightful fields and the fruitful vine!

Jeremiah Complains about the Reaction to His Ministry LORD, you coerced me into being a prophet, and I allowed you to do it. You overcame my resistance and prevailed over me. Now I have become a constant laughingstock. Everyone ridicules me.

Then he had Zedekiah’s eyes put out and had him bound in chains to be led off to Babylon.

Can your heart endure, or can your hands be strong when I deal with you? I, the LORD, have spoken, and I will do it!

He will confirm a covenant with many for one week. But in the middle of that week he will bring sacrifices and offerings to a halt. On the wing of abominations will come one who destroys, until the decreed end is poured out on the one who destroys.”

The robbers who were crucified with him also spoke abusively to him.

Watch out, then, that what is spoken about by the prophets does not happen to you:
