The Departure of Saint Moses, Bishop of Osim

On this day, the holy father Anba Moses, Bishop of the See of Osim, departed. He was a pure virgin from his youth and studied the sciences of the Church. He was ordained a deacon, then went to the wilderness of Sheheit and became a monk under a holy man. He served him for eighteen years, constantly devoted to prayer and fasting, adorned with humility and love. When his virtues became known, he was ordained bishop of Osim after Anba Gemoul. He led a virtuous and righteous life, increased in virtue, and shepherded the flock of Christ with excellent care. He was ascetic and did not acquire anything throughout his life. He endured great hardships with Pope Michael, the 46th Patriarch of Alexandria, and God performed many signs and wonders through him. He often prophesied events before they occurred, including once telling Anba Tadros, Bishop of Egypt, “The king will not return to his kingdom.” And so it was. When he completed his service and reached a righteous old age, he became slightly ill. Knowing the time of his departure, he summoned his people, blessed them, and exhorted them. Then he asked them to pray for him. They all wept, asking him to intercede for them before Christ. He then stretched out his hands, prayed, bid them farewell, and peacefully departed after serving on the throne for twenty-nine years.

May his prayer be with us. Glory be to our Lord forever. Amen.
