And he took^H3947 him a potsherd^H2789 to scrape^H1623 himself therewith; and he sat^H3427 among^H8432 the ashes.^H665

For thou wilt save^H3467 the afflicted^H6041 people;^H5971 But the haughty^H7311 eyes^H5869 thou wilt bring down.^H8213

O daughter^H1323 of Babylon,^H894 that art to be destroyed,^H7703 Happy^H835 shall he be, that rewardeth^H7999 thee As thou hast served^H1580 us.

The burden^H4853 of Babylon,^H894 which Isaiah^H3470 the son^H1121 of Amoz^H531 did see.^H2372

For Jehovah^H3068 will have compassion^H7355 on Jacob,^H3290 and will yet choose^H977 Israel,^H3478 and set^H3240 them in their own land:^H127 and the sojourner^H1616 shall join^H3867 himself with them, and they shall cleave^H5596 to the house^H1004 of Jacob.^H3290

I will ascend^H5927 above the heights^H1116 of the clouds;^H5645 I will make myself like^H1819 the Most High.^H5945

And he said,^H559 Thou shalt no more^H3254 rejoice,^H5937 O thou oppressed^H6231 virgin^H1330 daughter^H1323 of Sidon:^H6721 arise,^H6965 pass over^H5674 to Kittim;^H3794 even there shalt thou have no rest.^H5117

Rise up,^H6965 ye women^H802 that are at ease,^H7600 [and] hear^H8085 my voice;^H6963 ye careless^H982 daughters,^H1323 give ear^H238 unto my speech.^H565

And thou saidst,^H559 I shall be mistress^H1404 for ever;^H5769 so that thou didst not lay^H7760 these things to thy heart,^H3820 neither didst remember^H2142 the latter end^H319 thereof.

Say^H559 thou unto the king^H4428 and to the queen-mother,^H1377 Humble^H8213 yourselves, sit down;^H3427 for your headtires^H4761 are come down,^H3381 even the crown^H5850 of your glory.^H8597

O thou daughter^H1323 that dwellest^H3427 in Dibon,^H1769 come down^H3381 from thy glory,^H3519 and sit^H3427 in thirst;^H6772 for the destroyer^H7703 of Moab^H4124 is come^H5927 up against thee, he hath destroyed^H7843 thy strongholds.^H4013

Thus saith^H559 Jehovah:^H3068 Behold, I will raise up^H5782 against Babylon,^H894 and against them that dwell^H3427 in Leb -^H3820 kamai,^H6965 a destroying^H7843 wind.^H7307

We are confounded,^H954 because we have heard^H8085 reproach;^H2781 confusion^H3639 hath covered^H3680 our faces:^H6440 for strangers^H2114 are come^H935 into the sanctuaries^H4720 of Jehovah's^H3068 house.^H1004

The youth^H5288 and the old^H2205 man lie^H7901 on the ground^H776 in the streets;^H2351 My virgins^H1330 and my young men^H970 are fallen^H5307 by the sword:^H2719 Thou hast slain^H2026 them in the day^H3117 of thine anger;^H639 Thou hast slaughtered,^H2873 [and] not pitied.^H2550

Then all the princes^H5387 of the sea^H3220 shall come down^H3381 from their thrones,^H3678 and lay aside^H5493 their robes,^H4598 and strip off^H6584 their broidered^H7553 garments:^H899 they shall clothe^H3847 themselves with trembling;^H2731 they shall sit^H3427 upon the ground,^H776 and shall tremble^H2729 every moment,^H7281 and be astonished^H8074 at thee.

The pride^H2087 of thy heart^H3820 hath deceived^H5377 thee, O thou that dwellest^H7931 in the clefts^H2288 of the rock,^H5553 whose habitation^H3427 is high;^H4791 that saith^H559 in his heart,^H3820 Who shall bring me down^H3381 to the ground?^H776

and I will overthrow^H2015 the throne^H3678 of kingdoms;^H4467 and I will destroy^H8045 the strength^H2392 of the kingdoms^H4467 of the nations;^H1471 and I will overthrow^H2015 the chariots,^H4818 and those that ride^H7392 in them; and the horses^H5483 and their riders^H7392 shall come down,^H3381 every one^H376 by the sword^H2719 of his brother.^H251

How much^G3745 soever she glorified^G1392 herself,^G1438 and^G2532 waxed wanton,^G4763 so much^G5118 give^G1325 her^G846 of torment^G929 and^G2532 mourning:^G3997 for^G3754 she saith^G3004 in^G1722 her^G846 heart,^G2588 I sit^G2521 a queen,^G938 and^G2532 am^G1510 no^G3756 widow,^G5503 and^G2532 shall in no^G3756 wise^G3361 see^G1492 mourning.^G3997
