B ut now they that are youngerH6810 than I have me in derision,H7832 Whose fathersH1 I disdainedH3988 to setH7896 with the dogsH3611 of my flock.H6629

Yea, the strengthH3581 of their hands,H3027 wheretoH4100 should it profit me? Men in whom ripe ageH3624 is perished.H6

They are gauntH1565 with wantH2639 and famine;H3720 They gnawH6207 the dry ground,H6723 in the gloomH570 of wastenessH4875 and desolation.H7722

They pluckH6998 salt-wortH4408 by the bushes;H7880 And the rootsH8328 of the broomH7574 are their food.H3899

They are driven forthH1644 from the midstH1460 [of men]; They cryH7321 after them as after a thief;H1590

So that they dwellH7931 in frightfulH6178 valleys,H5158 In holesH2356 of the earthH6083 and of the rocks.H3710

Among the bushesH7880 they bray;H5101 Under the nettlesH2738 they are gathered together.H5596

[ They are] childrenH1121 of fools,H5036 yea, childrenH1121 of base men;H8034 They were scourgedH5217 out of the land.H776

And now I am become their song,H5058 Yea, I am a bywordH4405 unto them.

They abhorH8581 me, they stand aloofH7368 from me, And spareH2820 not to spitH7536 in my face.H6440

For he hath loosedH6605 his cord,H3499 and afflictedH6031 me; And they have castH7971 off the bridleH7448 beforeH6440 me.

Upon my rightH3225 hand riseH6965 the rabble;H6526 They thrust asideH7971 my feet,H7272 And they cast upH5549 against me their waysH734 of destruction.H343

They marH5420 my path,H5410 They set forwardH3276 my calamity,H1942 [Even] men that have no helper.H5826

As through a wideH7342 breachH6556 they come:H857 In the midstH8478 of the ruinH7722 they rollH1556 themselves [upon me].

TerrorsH1091 are turnedH2015 upon me; They chaseH7291 mine honorH5082 as the wind;H7307 And my welfareH3444 is passed awayH5674 as a cloud.H5645

And now my soulH5315 is poured outH8210 within me; DaysH3117 of afflictionH6040 have taken holdH270 upon me.

In the night seasonH3915 my bonesH6106 are piercedH5365 in me, And the [pains] that gnawH6207 me take no rest.H7901

By [God's] greatH7230 forceH3581 is my garmentH3830 disfigured;H2664 It bindeth me aboutH247 as the collarH6310 of my coat.H3801

He hath castH3384 me into the mire,H2563 And I am become likeH4911 dustH6083 and ashes.H665

I cryH7768 unto thee, and thou dost not answerH6030 me: I stand up,H5975 and thou gazestH995 at me.

Thou art turnedH2015 to be cruelH393 to me; With the mightH6108 of thy handH3027 thou persecutestH7852 me.

Thou liftest me upH5375 to the wind,H7307 thou causest me to rideH7392 [upon it]; And thou dissolvestH4127 meH8454 in the storm.

For I knowH3045 that thou wilt bringH7725 me to death,H4194 And to the houseH1004 appointedH4150 for all living.H2416

Howbeit doth not one stretch outH7971 the handH3027 in his fall?H1164 Or in his calamityH6365 therefore cryH7769 for help?

Did not I weepH1058 for him that was in trouble?H7186 Was not my soulH5315 grievedH5701 for the needy?H34

When I lookedH6960 for good,H2896 then evilH7451 came;H935 And when I waitedH3176 for light,H216 there cameH935 darkness.H652

My heartH4578 is troubled,H7570 and restethH1826 not; DaysH3117 of afflictionH6040 are come uponH6923 me.

I goH1980 mourningH6937 without the sun:H2535 I stand upH6965 in the assembly,H6951 and cryH7768 for help.

I am a brotherH251 to jackals,H8577 And a companionH7453 to ostriches.H1323

My skinH5785 is black,H7835 [and falleth] from me, And my bonesH6106 are burnedH2787 with heat.H2721

Therefore is my harpH3658 [turned] to mourning,H60 And my pipeH5748 into the voiceH6963 of them that weep.H1058
