Moreouer shee conceiued againe and bare a sonne, saying, Nowe will I prayse the Lorde: therefore shee called his name Iudah, and left bearing.

Now Ioseph was gouerner of the land, who solde to all the people of the lande: then Iosephs brethren came, & bowed their face to the groud before him.
Also the sonnes of Iudah: Er, & Onan, and Shelah, and Pharez, and Zerah: (but Er and Onan died in ye land of Canaan) And the sonnes of Pharez were Hezron and Hamul.
In the first place went the standerd of the hoste of the children of Iudah, according to their armies: and Nahshon the sonne of Amminabad was ouer his band.
And thus he blessed Iudah, and said, Heare, O Lord, the voyce of Iudah, and bring him vnto his people: his hands shalbe sufficient for him, if thou helpe him against his enemies.
This shalbe the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Iudah according to their families.
And the Lord said, Iudah shall goe vp: behold, I haue giuen the land into his hande.
So all the Elders of Israel came to the King to Hebron: and King Dauid made a couenant with them in Hebron before the Lorde: & they anoynted Dauid King ouer Israel.
And Ioab deliuered the nomber and summe of the people vnto the King: and there were in Israel eight hundreth thousande strong men that drewe swordes, and the men of Iudah were fiue hundreth thousand men.
For Iudah preuailed aboue his brethren, and of him came the prince, but the birthright was Iosephs)
And in all cities he put shieldes & speares, and made them exceeding strong: so Iudah and Beniamin were his.
And he gathered all Iudah and Beniamin, and the strangers with them out of Ephraim, and Manasseh, and out of Simeon: for there fell many to him out of Israel, when they sawe that the Lorde his God was with him.
And these are the nombers of them after the house of their fathers, In Iudah were captaines of thousands, Adnah the captaine, & with him of valiant men three hundreth thousande.
And thou hast giuen me the neckes of mine enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me.
But chose the tribe of Iudah, and mount Zion which he loued.
Whiles they see vanitie vnto thee, & prophecied a lie vnto thee to bring thee vpon the neckes of the wicked that are slaine, whose day is come when their iniquitie shall haue an ende.
For it is euident, that our Lord sprung out of Iuda, concerning the which tribe Moses spake nothing, touching the Priesthood.
And one of the Elders saide vnto me, Weepe not: beholde, that Lion which is of the tribe of Iuda, that roote of Dauid, hath obteined to open the Booke, and to loose the seuen seales thereof.
