‹Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.›
‹And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.›
‹And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.›
‹Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.›
¶ And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them,
Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and [against] God.
¶ And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,
‹For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.›
And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,
And as they went about to kill him, tidings came unto the chief captain of the band, that all Jerusalem was in an uproar.
¶ And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men [and] brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.
¶ Now when Festus was come into the province, after three days he ascended from Caesarea to Jerusalem.
Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I [am] more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft.
¶ [Which is] a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:
‹Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast› [some] ‹of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.›
¶ And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
