And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and said, [Am] I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man doth send unto me to recover a man of his leprosy? wherefore consider, I pray you, and see how he seeketh a quarrel against me.
And Jesus answering said unto him, ‹Suffer› [it to be so] ‹now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness.› Then he suffered him.
¶ ‹Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.›
‹And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.›
Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.
And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him away;
‹And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.›
And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.
And he charged him to ‹tell no man: but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.›
‹And it shall turn to you for a testimony.›
‹He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.›
‹If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.›
