Joseph replied to Pharaoh,“It is not within my power, but God will speak concerning the welfare of Pharaoh.”

Who is there from the entire human race who has heard the voice of the living God speaking from the middle of the fire as we have, and has lived?

Joshua continued,“This is how you will know the living God is among you and that he will truly drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites, and Jebusites.

David asked the men who were standing near him,“What will be done for the man who strikes down this Philistine and frees Israel from this humiliation? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he defies the armies of the living God?”

This happened because of all the sins which Baasha and his son Elah committed and which they made Israel commit. They angered the LORD God of Israel with their worthless idols.

Perhaps the LORD your God will hear all these things the chief adviser has spoken on behalf of his master, the king of Assyria, who sent him to taunt the living God. When the LORD your God hears, perhaps he will punish him for the things he has said. So pray for this remnant that remains.’”

I hate those who serve worthless idols, but I trust in the LORD.

Our deliverer is the LORD, the Creator of heaven and earth.

From eternity I have been fashioned, from the beginning, from before the world existed.

No one thinks to himself, nor do they comprehend or understand and say to themselves:‘I burned half of it in the fire– yes, I baked bread over the coals; I roasted meat and ate it. With the rest of it should I make a disgusting idol? Should I bow down to dry wood?’

Gather together and come! Approach together, you refugees from the nations! Those who carry wooden idols know nothing, those who pray to a god that cannot deliver.

I hear my dear people crying out throughout the length and breadth of the land. They are crying,‘Is the LORD no longer in Zion? Is her divine King no longer there?’” The LORD answers,“Why then do they provoke me to anger with their images, with their worthless foreign idols?”

The people of those nations are both stupid and foolish. Instruction from a wooden idol is worthless!

All these idolaters will prove to be stupid and ignorant. Every goldsmith will be disgraced by the idol he made. For the image he forges is merely a sham. There is no breath in any of those idols.

‘Oh, Sovereign LORD, you did indeed make heaven and earth by your mighty power and great strength. Nothing is too hard for you!

I have issued an edict that throughout all the dominion of my kingdom people are to revere and fear the God of Daniel.“For he is the living God; he endures forever. His kingdom will not be destroyed; his authority is forever.

Those who worship worthless idols forfeit the mercy that could be theirs.

Simon Peter answered,“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

The person who speaks on his own authority desires to receive honor for himself; the one who desires the honor of the one who sent him is a man of integrity, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

When they heard this, they raised their voices to God with one mind and said,“Master of all, you who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and everything that is in them,

But Peter helped him up, saying,“Stand up. I too am a mere mortal.”

And we proclaim to you the good news about the promise to our ancestors,

Paul and Barnabas Return to Antioch in Syria After they had proclaimed the good news in that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, to Iconium, and to Antioch.

Paul at Athens While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, his spirit was greatly upset because he saw the city was full of idols.

I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles, to whom I am sending you

Since many of them had no desire to eat, Paul stood up among them and said,“Men, you should have listened to me and not put out to sea from Crete, thus avoiding this damage and loss.

For since the creation of the world his invisible attributes– his eternal power and divine nature– have been clearly seen, because they are understood through what has been made. So people are without excuse.

Live in Holiness So I say this, and insist in the Lord, that you no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.

in case I am delayed, to let you know how people ought to conduct themselves in the household of God, because it is the church of the living God, the support and bulwark of the truth.

Elijah was a human being like us, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain and there was no rain on the land for three years and six months!

So I threw myself down at his feet to worship him, but he said,“Do not do this! I am only a fellow servant with you and your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony about Jesus. Worship God, for the testimony about Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

But he said to me,“Do not do this! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers the prophets, and with those who obey the words of this book. Worship God!”
