I called for a fast there by the Ahava Canal, so that we might humble ourselves before our God and seek from him a safe journey for us, our children, and all our property.

Then Ezra got up from in front of the temple of God and went to the room of Jehohanan son of Eliashib. While he stayed there, he did not eat food or drink water, for he was in mourning over the infidelity of the exiles.

The People Acknowledge Their Sin before God On the twenty-fourth day of this same month the Israelites assembled; they were fasting and wearing sackcloth, their heads covered with dust.

Throughout each and every province where the king’s edict and law were announced there was considerable mourning among the Jews, along with fasting, weeping, and sorrow. Sackcloth and ashes were characteristic of many.

Therefore I despise myself, and I repent in dust and ashes!

I weep and refrain from eating food, which causes others to insult me.

At that time the Sovereign LORD of Heaven’s Armies, called for weeping and mourning, for shaved heads and sackcloth.

When you call out to me and come to me in prayer, I will hear your prayers.

“This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will allow the house of Israel to ask me to do this for them: I will multiply their people like sheep.

In those days I, Daniel, was mourning for three whole weeks.

An Appeal for Repentance“Yet even now,” the LORD says,“return to me with all your heart– with fasting, weeping, and mourning.

Cornelius replied,“Four days ago at this very hour, at three o’clock in the afternoon, I was praying in my house, and suddenly a man in shining clothing stood before me

So confess your sins to one another and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great effectiveness.
