King Tiglath-pileser of Assyria came, but he gave him more trouble than support.
So look, the Lord is bringing up against them the turbulent and mighty waters of the Euphrates River– the king of Assyria and all his majestic power. It will reach flood stage and overflow its banks.
So the LORD cut off Israel’s head and tail, both the shoots and stalk in one day.
Does an ax exalt itself over the one who wields it, or a saw magnify itself over the one who cuts with it? As if a scepter should brandish the one who raises it, or a staff should lift up what is not made of wood!
The Lord Will Judge the Earth Look, the LORD is ready to devastate the earth and leave it in ruins; he will mar its surface and scatter its inhabitants.
I have at this time placed all these nations of yours under the power of my servant, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. I have even made all the wild animals subject to him.
