He chose the tribe of Judah, and Mount Zion, which he loves.

He proclaims his word to Jacob, his statutes and regulations to Israel.

A Love Song Gone Sour I will sing to my love– a song to my lover about his vineyard. My love had a vineyard on a fertile hill.

I planted you in the land like a special vine of the very best stock. Why in the world have you turned into something like a wild vine that produces rotten, foul-smelling grapes?

“‘But I said to their children in the wilderness,“Do not follow the practices of your fathers; do not observe their regulations, nor defile yourselves with their idols.

Then the disciples came to him and said,“Why do you speak to them in parables?”

The Use of Parables So with many parables like these, he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear.

It is like a man going on a journey. He left his house and put his slaves in charge, assigning to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to stay alert.

Warning to Israel to Bear Fruit Then Jesus told this parable:“A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came looking for fruit on it and found none.

Therefore he said,“A nobleman went to a distant country to receive for himself a kingdom and then return.

They said to him,“Where do you want us to prepare it?”

This is the man who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him at Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors, and he received living oracles to give to you.

Therefore what advantage does the Jew have, or what is the value of circumcision?
