then his sister-in-law must approach him in view of the elders, remove his sandal from his foot, and spit in his face. She will then respond,“Thus may it be done to any man who does not maintain his brother’s family line!”

Job’s Indignities“And now I have become their taunt song; I have become a byword among them.

I offered my back to those who attacked, my jaws to those who tore out my beard; I did not hide my face from insults and spitting.

He was despised and rejected by people, one who experienced pain and was acquainted with illness; people hid their faces from him; he was despised, and we considered him insignificant.

Let him offer his cheek to the one who hits him; let him have his fill of insults.

when people lie about us, we answer in a friendly manner. We are the world’s dirt and scum, even now.

keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy set out for him he endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.
