St. Exsuperantius the Bishop / Superantius

29 Mesra · 4 Sep

Story

Bishop Exsuperantius, or Superantius, was the successor of Saint Ursus as metropolitan of Ravenna.

He lived a holy life and cared for the spiritual and temporal needs of the people of God alike.

He lived in the days of the Emperor Honorius, and when Stilicho entered the city of Ravenna with his army, he persuaded him not to allow the soldiers to enter the cathedral and desecrate it.

He lived about twenty years in his bishopric during a period of peace, until he reposed in the year 418 A.D. He was buried in the Church of Saint Agnes, and his relics still remain in the cathedral of Ravenna.

His feast is commemorated on the 30th of May
