The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge; but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.

Don't reprove a scoffer, lest he hate you. Reprove a wise man, and he will love you.

But they remained silent, and said nothing in reply, for the king's commandment was, "Don't answer him."

The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, also heard all these things, and they scoffed at him.

The man answered them, "How amazing! You don't know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes.

Many of them said, "He has a demon, and is insane! Why do you listen to him?"

Some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers also were conversing with him. Some said, "What does this babbler want to say?" Others said, "He seems to be advocating foreign deities," because he preached Jesus and the resurrection.

When they didn't agree among themselves, they departed after Paul had spoken one word, "The Holy Spirit spoke rightly through Isaiah, the prophet, to our fathers,

We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You have honor, but we have dishonor.
