Kiahk là tháng mùa chay Giáng Sinh và các bài tán tụng lớn lúc nửa đêm: tuần này qua tuần khác, Hội Thánh thức canh cùng Mẹ Thiên Chúa, hát tasbeha cho đến rạng đông. Câu châm ngôn thân thương của tháng — «Kiahk, buổi sáng của con là buổi tối của con» — và khi kết thúc, ánh sáng Bêlem bừng lên trên Ai Cập.
