So there were quarrels between Abram’s herdsmen and Lot’s herdsmen.(Now the Canaanites and the Perizzites were living in the land at that time.)

Evil men draw their swords and prepare their bows, to bring down the oppressed and needy, and to slaughter those who are godly.

What will you do on judgment day, when destruction arrives from a distant place? To whom will you run for help? Where will you leave your wealth?

In the same way, let your light shine before people, so that they can see your good deeds and give honor to your Father in heaven.

It is enough for the disciple to become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they have called the head of the house‘Beelzebul,’ how much worse will they call the members of his household!

“Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you and insult you and reject you as evil on account of the Son of Man!

Simeon has explained how God first concerned himself to select from among the Gentiles a people for his name.

nor can they prove to you the things they are accusing me of doing.

Do not repay anyone evil for evil; consider what is good before all people.

and thus the Gentiles glorify God for his mercy. As it is written,“Because of this I will confess you among the Gentiles, and I will sing praises to your name.”

Paul Defends His Changed Plans For our reason for confidence is this: the testimony of our conscience, that with pure motives and sincerity which are from God– not by human wisdom but by the grace of God– we conducted ourselves in the world, and all the more toward you.

Now we pray to God that you may not do anything wrong, not so that we may appear to have passed the test, but so that you may do what is right even if we may appear to have failed the test.

You were taught with reference to your former way of life to lay aside the old man who is being corrupted in accordance with deceitful desires,

so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God without blemish though you live in a crooked and perverse society, in which you shine as lights in the world

In this way you will live a decent life before outsiders and not be in need.

Let no one look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in your speech, conduct, love, faithfulness, and purity.

Your conduct must be free from the love of money and you must be content with what you have, for he has said,“I will never leave you and I will never abandon you.”

True Wisdom Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct he should show his works done in the gentleness that wisdom brings.

Yet do it with courtesy and respect, keeping a good conscience, so that those who slander your good conduct in Christ may be put to shame when they accuse you.

If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory, who is the Spirit of God, rests on you.
